X Rolls Out New ‘More About This Account’ Feature But The Results Aren’t Impressive

Elon Musk rolled out xAI in 2023 and since then, he’s been promoting it as the next best thing that his X app has to offer.

The platform was said to be testing a host of AI capabilities from its Grok chabot and beyond the usual features, we were told more about how it was being used to provide users with summaries of what’s trending.

Now, the app is rolling out another feature dubbed ‘More About This Account’ and while it might sound interesting, it’s safe to say that experts are calling this underwhelming.

The whole point is to give viewers greater insights about the user in question through a series of AI-generated sentences. And while it does sound useful, it fails to impress big time.

Users who are premium account holders can see the feature whenever they see any name or handle on the platform. They would click on this and that would roll out a summary or synopsis of the account. While there are cases where the data is generic and correct, many instances were found where it was more than wrong.

An example by TC proved how asking the chatbot about certain colleagues of an account led to them giving a few sentences related to post types on a certain app.

Shockingly, Grok misled many people and gave out data that was incorrect so in reality, it’s promoting misinformation which is already said to be at its peak on the platform.

We agree that the 1.5 version of the Grok chatbot is early in its launch and therefore we should keep a margin for error but still, whether or not this is acceptable is a debate that many of us are having.

Some instances were found where Grok may not get its facts wrong but it’s not adding any value to replies other than what can be found already by seeing the account’s bio section. So again, what’s the point of this feature to begin with, right?

Whatever the case may be, one thing is for sure. X certainly didn’t think this one out too much and considering how much data the chatbot has access to on the app, it should really be better equipped at churning information than what it’s doing right now. We feel a rethink is necessary, what about you?
