The Odds of Completing This LEGO Imperial Star Destroyer Are…Pretty Good, Actually

At this point, nostalgia for LEGO Star Wars sets is almost as potent as Star Wars nostalgia itself. To wit: this 25th anniversary edition of the LEGO Imperial Star Destroyer set has me absolutely drooling. It’s a 1,555 piece set that folds out when it’s fully built to reveal a detailed interior. This edition also comes with a minifig of Cal Kestis, protagonist of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Fun fact: the first LEGO Star Wars sets were introduced in 1999, which is closer to the release of the first Star Wars movie than it is to today. And on that note, I’m gonna go lie down and think about the inexorable passage of time for a bit.

Stick This SSD In Your PS5 And Store It

WD_Black M.2 SSD With Heat Sink

And by “it” I mean “a lot more games than you could previously store.” The original PS5 didn’t even make it to a full 1TB of storage, while some games could take up over a hundred gigs on their own. Fortunately, it’s incredibly easy to add more storage. Personally, I wish I’d had this before I dared to install every Horizon game, plus a couple Final Fantasy titles, since that’s about as much as my OG PS5 could handle.

Please, YouTubers, Put Down the Lav Mic and Pick Up This Wireless One

If you’ve spent any amount of time watching videos on YouTube, you’ve probably seen someone haphazardly tape a lav mic to their shirt. If you’ve spent any amount of time making videos for YouTube, you could probably use this wireless mic system from RØDE. These boxes have mics built right in, and a wireless transmitter that sends the signal back to a receiver. You can plug traditional lav mics into them using 3.5mm cables, but if you want to avoid your subject looking like they’re ratting you out to the feds, this is a much better (and more attractive) solution.

Sony’s A7 IV Mirrorless Camera Is On Its Regularly Scheduled Sale

The Sony A7 IV (9/10, WIRED Recommends) is our top pick for Best Mirrorless Cameras for most people (that have a couple thousand dollars to spare on a camera, anyway). It has a 33-megapixel, full-frame sensor, and the best autofocus system of any camera our team has tested. We often see this camera for a couple hundred dollars off, so this probably won’t be your last chance to get it at this price, but if you’ve had your eye on it, now’s the time to pull the trigger. Er, shutter.

This Is the Pillow I’m Going to Fall Asleep On When I’m Done With This Liveblog

Hybrid Snow Pillow (Standard)

I’ve tested a lot of pillows for WIRED. I mean, a lot. Yet I keep coming back to this one from Casper. It has a foam core to help provide neck support, flanked by two softer memory foam layers to make it cushy enough to feel comfortable. Best of all, it manages to stay cool all night long. I live in Texas, where 90 degree weather is still “a cool day” even now in October. I’ll take all the help I can get staving off the heat and this Casper pillow delivers.

How Many Deals Does It Take to Get to the Center of Prime Day?

So far, it’s up to 297 and counting, but it seems like we’re still not done. We’ve got deals on Philips Hue starter kits, electric corkscrews, and 3D puzzles of Notre Dame, plus everything in between in the latest update to our roundup of the best Prime Day deals. This is the last update to our giant guide that we’re gonna have tonight, but we’ll be on for a few more hours liveblogging, and then back into the deals mines bright and early for Day Two tomorrow!

Well-rounded Wireless Buds Anyone Can Afford

Jabra’s Elite 4 Active (9/10, WIRED Recommends) is one of those products that seems too good to be true. Good sound, serious weatherproofing, and even some solid noise canceling for around $100? Even years later, it feels like you’re pulling one over on the brand, which is why a sale like this is worth jumping on. This isn’t the best noise canceling you’ll find by any means, but it works pretty well when combined with the earbuds’ good passive noise isolation. They’re also a comfy ride and sound very good for the money. You can get more features if you’re willing to spend up, but if you’re looking for workhorse buds for well under $100, or a gift for a loved one that won’t break the bank, it’s hard to think of a pair I’d recommend more highly than these.

Give Your Back the Break It Deserves With This Branch Office Chair

The WIRED team spends a lot of time with a lot of butts in a lot of seats, and for our money, it doesn’t get better than the Branch Ergonomic Chair. It’s our top pick for Best Office Chair, thanks to its adjustability, excellent build quality, and easy assembly. The nylon mesh back is breathable (so it doesn’t make your back too sweaty) while being comfortable enough to sit on for long periods of time. Though, please be sure to take frequent breaks to stand up and move around. Your future self will thank you for it.

This Turntable Is the Perfect Blend of Old and New School

Victrola is well-known for its stellar turntables, but the Stream Onyx (8/10, WIRED Recommends) is a particular delight. It can connect to an analog sound system just like any other record player, but it’s also equipped with Sonos capability right out of the box. It’s dead-simple to hook this thing up and immediately start listening to your record collection on any of the Sonos speakers in your home. Analog purists might hate it, but in my experience with it, there’s barely any noticeable difference using the wireless audio. That means you can finally bring modern convenience to your classic collection.

Take The Best Nap of Your Life on This Dog Bed for Humans

We have a strange obsession with the Plufl (9/10, WIRED Recommends) here on the WIRED Gear desk, except it’s not strange at all because just look at this thing. It’s as soft as it looks—nay, softer—with a luxurious plush covering that feels impossibly cozy to sink into. The raised edges are firm enough that you can rest up against them, even if you constantly rotate around like the clown from The Big Comfy Couch. And the bottom layer is memory foam so it’s much more comfortable than just sitting on the floor. (There’ve gotta be other floor-sitters out there, right?) It’s the perfect place for reading, watching TV, or catching some shut-eye. This is one of the best prices we’ve tracked and the deal applies to multiple color options.

While We’re At It, Maybe Pick Up These Gaming Headphones, Too

Maybe I’m focusing a bit too much on the gaming deals, but hey, I’m the gaming guy at WIRED. It’s the gig. The HyperX Cloud III Wireless headphones are the little sibling of the Cloud Alpha Wireless that managed to earn an extremely rare perfect score in my review. The Cloud III gets over 120 hours of battery life, which is still several times longer than most other headsets I’ve tested. It doesn’t hurt that they’re comfortable, stylish with an all-black design, and come with a handy USB-C adapter so you can pair them with almost any device.

The Gorgeous Odyssey G6 Gaming Monitor Has, Perhaps, Too Many Frames

Odyssey G6 OLED Gaming Monitor

The best benchmark any spec can reach is “enough”, and that’s exactly what the Samsung Odyssey G6 pulls off when it comes to frame rate. This monitor is capable of displaying up to 360 frames per second (if your PC can even generate that much) which is a staggering amount of information for your eyes to see. Reasonable people can disagree on whether you can tell the difference between 60fps and 120fps or even 240fps, but once you cross the 300fps mark, it’s hard to even find a game where the extra frames would matter. So, 360Hz is, in my book, “enough.” Pair that kind of refresh rate with a gorgeous OLED display, a convenient stand, and a wide array of useful ports, the Odyssey G6 is easily one of my favorite gaming monitors. And now it’s down to its best price ever.

If You Need As Much Caffeine As I Do, Snag This Heavy Duty Espresso Machine

The Breville Barista Express is our top pick for Best Espresso Machines. It’s an absolute unit of a machine, built out of sturdy, easy-to-clean metal. It has a handy pressure gauge to keep an eye on your water pressure, and it can even grind your beans for you. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this device on this kind of sale, but it often goes for months at a time at its normal, higher price, so this is one of the better times to buy.

The Kindle Paperwhite Is On a Very Rare Sale

Kindle Paperwhite (2021, 11th Generation)

The Kindle Paperwhite (8/10, WIRED Recommends) is the Best Kindle for most people, and it only goes on sale once every few months. This is one of those months. It has a generous, 6.8-inch screen, small bezels (but that are still comfortable to hold), and built-in lighting so you can read even in the dark, without blinding yourself like you would on a phone or tablet.

The Beats Fit Pro Fit In Your Ears Better Than Most Earbuds

The Beats Fit Pro (9/10, WIRED Recommends) might be a bit older, but they’re still one of our picks for the Best Wireless Earbuds. This is in large part thanks to their excellent fit. They have soft, silicone tips that sit inside your ear to keep the buds in place, no matter what vigorous activity you’re doing. They come with the same H1 chip in older AirPods Pro models, and produce stellar sound.

Your Father-In-Law Wants This Smart Bird Feeder

Birdfy Plastic Smart Bird Feeder

Maybe I’m just getting older, but there’s nothing quite so charming as watching birds in the morning. Former WIRED reviewer Medea Giordano would agree, and she would also note that one of our favorite smart bird feeders is currently on major sale. It’s plastic and doesn’t require much upkeep (especially if you keep it on a covered porch) and it has a 1080p camera. You can also opt in to a subscription service to identify birds in the app.

This External SSD Can Record 6K Raw Footage, Take a Beating

I often use video cameras that require some pretty absurd data transfer speeds. Like the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K which records 12-bit RAW footage at 6K resolution. If you’re not a video nerd, let me explain: that’s a lot of data to transfer, very quickly! Fortunately, this T7 Shield SSD from Samsung is up to the task. It supports up to 1050MB/s speeds, which is more than fast enough to handle just about anything you could throw at it. It’s also got a rubber, ruggedized casing that’s more durable than the standard T7 SSD, so if you have to take it out on run-and-gun shoots, it can survive a drop without losing irreplaceable footage.

Keep This Battery In Your Car and Thank Me Later

Noco Boost Plus GB40 Jump Starter

battery-powered jump starter

I can’t tell you how many times this Noco Boost Plus has come to my rescue. It’s a 1,000 amp, 12-volt battery that can jump start your car if you find yourself with a dead battery. It comes with a set of jumper cable connectors, so you can plug it directly into your car. It’s much easier than waiting for a kind stranger to come by and lining up two cars next to each other. It also has USB ports to charge your phone in an emergency, plus a built-in flashlight to help you see if you happen to get stranded in the dark. Pick one up, keep it charged, and keep it in your car. Hopefully you’ll forget about it, but the next time you leave your interior lights on all night, you’ll be glad you have it.

What’s a Prime Day Without a Sale on Ebooks?

What’s This? What’s This? Jack Skellington Is An Echo Dot Now

Jack Skellington Echo Dot

It’s almost time for Halloween, which can only mean one thing: Jack Skellington’s head is about to be on everything. Once a year, for the entire month of October, the Nightmare Before Christmas icon breaks out of his home in Hot Topics across America and drops his bony head into the living room of your nerdiest friends.

This particular iteration is a bundle that comes with an Echo Dot (5th Gen), plus an outer shell covering in the shape of the Pumpkin King himself. Though, if you’d rather have the Echo without all the theatrics, that’s on sale, too.
