The UK and US Are Partnering Up to Make Online Platforms Safe for Kids

The UK and US have partnered up together to form resources and strategies to make online platforms safe for children. Gina Raimondo, US Secretary of Commerce, said that nowadays children need online platforms for their learning and they often use social media too. But they are exposed to different harmful content online that can impact their well being and mental health. To tackle this issue, the US is going to partner up with the UK so they can form strategies that can ensure children’s safety, privacy and mental health.

The statistics show that many kids between the ages of 12 to 17 use social media like Snapchat, Instagram and other platforms daily. This increases the risks of exposure of children and they get more vulnerable to cyber-bullying, online predators and inappropriate content.

The UK technology secretary, Peter Kyle, says that the digital world has no borders and they are quite honored to work with the US to ensure children’s safety. Their partnership will be historic as it will make online platforms safe for children of the next generation. The UK’s Online Safety Act has been passed and will be in effect from 2025.
