Olympians Are Swapping More Than Just Medals In The Village, And It's Giving Me (And Everyone Else) Severe FOMO

The Olympic Village is our latest obsession. Its ins and outs are shrouded in mystery to most, but thankfully some Olympians have been graciously showing us behind-the-scenes moments via TikTok.

What would we do without them?

Although they’re incredibly informative and give us an intimate glimpse into the Olympic world, the videos are also giving us a serious case of FOMO.

The discovery of one particular activity left us feeling exactly the same as the user who tweeted this on X:

Am I jealous that I do not have any sort of Olympic-level athletic talent bc I want to compete and win gold medals or am I jealous that I do not have any sort of Olympic-level athletic talent bc I want to collect country pins around the village???

It might be a well-known tradition but this is one of the first times we’re getting a full picture of pin swapping in the Olympic Village. And we have sooooo many questions!

Most importantly, how in the world can we get a pin?

The first sighting of what we’re gonna call ‘The 2024 Great Olym-Pin Trade’ was on Team New Zealand’s TikTok page.

Rugby 7s Olympian Tysha Ikenasio told the story of how she approached Simone Biles and “begged” her to take one of the New Zealand team pins. In return the star gymnast traded Ikenasio for a personalised heart shaped pin.

This is where our fixation started. We needed to see EVERY. SINGLE. PIN.

As it turns out, it wasn’t just us that wanted to see which pins were circulating in ‘The Great Olym-Pin Trade’, everyone else being served Olympics content on their FYP wanted to see what was up for grabs too.
