Next iOS 18.1 beta could add a new toggle to Control Center – 9to5Mac

Although Apple didn’t release iOS 18.1 beta 6 this week for whatever reason, they did release new betas of watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS, which can occasionally give hints on Apple’s plans for other platforms.

According to code changes spotted by Aaron Perris on X, Apple is planning on adding a dedicated module to toggle satellite connectivity on your iPhone 14 or later. Previously, you could only toggle satellite connectivity inside of the combined connectivity module in Control Center, but with iOS 18.1 beta 6, you should be able to toggle it manually.

With iOS 18.1 beta 5, Apple added dedicated Control Center toggles for Wi-Fi and VPN connectivity. This satellite switch would join the bunch in beta 6.

It’s currently unclear why Apple skipped iOS 18.1 beta 6 this week. A last minute bug may have caused the delay, or the company could be preparing the release candidate instead. iOS 18.1 will likely release to the public in mid-October.

Apple has released updates that have caused devices to freeze or brick three times in the past few weeks, so holding back iOS 18.1 beta 6 might be a good thing after all.
