Last year, when Disney officially announced a follow-up to the 2019 remake of The Lion King, fans were quite skeptical based on their critical reception of the first film.

The legend of the Pride Rock animal kingdom will continue later this year on December 20.

Mufasa: The Lion King is directed by Barry Jenkins (Black Panther, Moonlight), and the screenplay is by the writer of the original first film, Jeff Nathanson (Rush Hour franchise, Catch Me If You Can) — so, you know it’s about to be compelling.

Not only are King Simba (voiced by Donald Glover), Queen Nala (voiced by Beyoncé), Pumbaa, and Timon (voiced by Seth Rogen and Billy Eichner) returning, but a couple of new characters are joining the live-action franchise.

Simba and Nala’s daughter Kiara (voiced by Blue Ivy) will make her debut as she hears the legend of how her grandfather, Mufasa (voiced by Aaron Pierre), an orphaned lion, joins the family of another lion, Taka (voiced by Kelvin Harrison) and battles a formidable lion named Kiros.

The trailer revealed that Taka (who eventually becomes Scar) is the heir to a royal bloodline. He befriends Mufasa and brings him into the family, and that’s got people second-guessing everything they knew about The Lion King and how they feel about one of Disney’s most menacing villains.

Some people were having difficulty accepting this new development in the history of Mufasa and Scar.

the orig story had Mufasa and his sibling as royals, with Mufasa being the eldest, and it’s such a bummer they altered that

Mufasa’s family needs to step in—this rewriting of history is unacceptable. Scar was the outcast, jealous of Mufasa’s upbringing lmao

And finally, this user thinks there may be more to this legend than the trailer revealed.

I doubt I think mufasa is still the rightful heir of pride rock because in the trailer they don’t show pride rock so scar was heir to another territory so I’m guessing scar’s parents died and mufasa took hum back to pride rock

Whatever way the legend of Mufasa plays out, I’m seated! December, hurry up and get here.
