Mattel's New Batman Barbies Are an Iconic Couple

As DC prepares to celebrate Batman’s 85th birthday with a whole bunch of celebrations and experiences, Mattel announced it was joining in on the fun with new collector Barbie dolls to celebrate the Dark Knight. Except, there’s no Ken whose job is vengeance in the line-up: instead it’s two pretty swanky riffs on everyone’s favorite Gothamite power couple.

Today Mattel revealed that its Bat-day celebrations will come in the form of two new $55 dolls of Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy joining its Signature Edition line of Barbies. Harley definitely leans a little more into her New 52 era design, with a touch of Margot Robbie, but still captures a contemporary riff on her classic costume. Meanwhile, Ivy is giving big Uma Thurman energy with that stunning leafy eye makeup. And the heels! Barbie-Bruce could never.

While it might feel a little odd that there’s no Batman to be found in the new drop—it would’ve be the first time we’ve had the Dark Knight represented in some form, either as Ken taking on the mantle or Barbie herself becoming Batgirl—it feels much more suitable for Barbie’s sense of style to offer two riffs on iconic female characters from Batman’s rogues’ gallery instead, rather than for her to simply put on her own cape and cowl. And these dolls truly do look delightful, both in the design and accessories. Harley’s hammer is fantastic, but shout out to the adorably deadly little Venus flytrap that Ivy comes with. Oh, and her gold wrist crossbow? What a statement piece.

Both Harley and Ivy are available to pre-order directly from Mattel now for members of Mattel’s Barbie 59 subscription, and will only be available to order until just before midnight ET tonight, September 18, ahead of shipping in November. The duo may show up at other retailers though if you miss out—click through to get more details on Harley and Ivy, respectively.
