Kylo Ren's Back to Let the Past Die in Star Wars' New Comic

It’s been almost five years since Adam Driver’s Kylo Ren faded away in the closing moments of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Since then, Disney and Lucasfilm have been careful to avoid doing much of anything set in the Sequel Trilogy’s aftermath (or in its general timeframe), but the two companies must think now’s the right time to give ol’ Ben Solo an ongoing comic.

Written by Charles Soule (Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren) and drawn by Luke Ross (Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters), the Legacy of Vader series will pick up with Ren after the events of The Last Jedi. Looking to finish what his grandpa started, the story will start with Ren exploring the remnants of Vader’s castle on Mustafar, and he’ll later trek through the rough, coarse sands of Tatooine. If that weren’t interesting enough, we’ll also get to see how well Kylo did as the First Order’s Supreme Leader after he went and sliced Snoke in half.

Soule explained this new book will continue to shine a light on unknown part of Kylo Ren’s life, particularly since the events of the first two movies are still in his mind. “[He’s] truly lost at this particular moment,” said Soule. “[All of that] is swirling around in his emotional matrix, making him deeply unstable, angry, and dangerous. He’s looking for any form of guidance he can get — even if he won’t admit it — and so he turns to just about the only thing he’s got left, the legacy of his grandfather, the Sith Lord Darth Vader.” Deeper insight will also be provided on Vader himself, though Soule was mum on what to expect on that front.

Star Wars: Legacy of Vader begins on February 5, 2025, and you can see preview pages below.
