Genevieve Scarano / BuzzFeed

I received this Gaiam yoga mat as a sample and really enjoy using it for yoga and Pilates! It’s so comfortable to stand, sit, and lay down on, and I don’t have to worry about sliding around, thanks to a grippy material. It’s also fun to flip the sides (my mat above came with light blue and dark blue sides) — I’ve never had a yoga mat with this design before! And if you don’t have a lot of space, no worries, because this mat rolls up to a compact size when you’re done exercising.”

Promising review: “I’m not going to lie, I didn’t have high hopes for this product after reading the other reviews. For that reason, I went with the standard punching bag in case it wouldn’t last long — being out of $50 is better than $90! But I really wanted to add this to my home gym for cardio days. I’m really glad I got this because holy hell this is a great workout! I’m still working on upper body strength, but my boyfriend also used this and he has a hell of a lot more strength than I do, and he loved it! He beat the crap out of it, which made me nervous after reading reviews that it doesn’t withstand heavy punches. To our surprise, it passed the test. Overall, it’s great for everyone regardless of strength. You’ll be dripping sweat after doing this! My boyfriend is 6’1” and I’m 5’4” and neither of us had an issue with the height of the punching bag.” —Mary

(Even if that farm is just Stardew Valley. We’re not judging.)

Promising review: “Being that I’m fitness-obsessed, I am always open to training with new products. Some I find useful; others, not so much. I must say, the ChopFit is extremely impressive, as I’ve incorporated it into my daily cardio and have used it every other day to shred obliques from all angles: overhand, underhand, and from the side. It’s the perfect weight, and you don’t have to mess around with the cables constantly, which always annoys me. I have recently begun training people in various types of fitness and have incorporated the ChopFit into their workouts, and they’re loving it! Did I mention we are in a pandemic, and this is a great tool for working out at home or outside if you’re still not going to the gym? It’s got me feeling like Rocky, chopping wood in Russia, training for battle with Ivan Drago. Could not recommend more. Big part of my current routine. Thank you.” —LT Murray

12. A yoga wheel because it’ll help you level up your yoga game by assisting with new positions and can decrease back tension and pain. (Consider buying this for that fun fact alone because hashtag thirties.)

Promising review: “I love this wheel, and I received it less than a week ago! I was worried at first since being close to 200 lbs, I didn’t think it could hold my weight, but it does very well. I have lower back pain and have been to a chiropractor, and physical therapy, and have taken pain meds, but this is the only thing that has brought me the quickest pain relief. I actually look forward to getting up in the morning and using this to relieve the tension in my low back. I do feel with the other methods I’ve tried that I’m healing, but I am certain that this wheel has been the most effective pain relief for me. I use this wheel in combination with some exercises specifically for low back pain relief. I’ve used this for less than a week, and I feel close to how I felt before suffering from low back pain. I would recommend this to anyone. I also plan to continue to use this as part of my daily stretching routine even after my back heals.” —kit

Promising review:This dumbbell set is great for anyone looking to do some home workouts. The neoprene coating is comfortable and easy to grip. They are also very durable — I dropped the 8-lb on the ground cause I tripped on my own feet, and there wasn’t even a mark on it (unlike my floor). I also really like the hexagon shape since I don’t have to worry about them rolling away between sets. I haven’t noticed any uneven weight distribution or balance issues either. Even though I bought the 3-lb, 5-lb, and 8-lb set it would be easy and affordable to add more dumbbells that match in higher weights when I’m ready. The stand is a little flimsy so you have to be careful when grabbing or putting away a weight, but it’s held up so far and does the job.” —Rachel Fuji

Promising reviews: “I’ve always struggled with strength training. When I had a gym membership, I’d do cardio and then wander around the weights section, clueless at what to do. Now that I have a home gym, this was just what I needed to get back into a routine. It’s easy to pick however many cards you want to do — you can do a longer workout or if you’re short on time just a few exercises. When I’m done with the ones I’ve picked, if I feel like I could do more, I just pick a few more cards. It takes the thought out of it, and a number of these exercises are ones I haven’t seen before. I’ve now bought all three versions and am looking at others in the series, including the kettlebell and barbell ones. Even my boyfriend, who’s already in shape, loves using these to change up his workouts.” —Kat

“I love these cards! I’m a beginner at yoga and the cards really inspired me to do yoga every day. The difficulty of poses is rated from easy to hard and each pose is explained. Promising review: “This hoop is GREAT! It is just so much fun to exercise with this thing. I play music and try to dance too lol. But I have experience, they used to have a weighted hoop in the gym I went to and I did it all the time. Highly recommend. You just need to make sure it’s clicked together correctly or it’ll come undone! Don’t worry if it happens to you, though, it’s totally fixable. It happened to me I think twice before I got it down. Anyway, if you’re looking for a weighted hoop, look no more!” —Molls

I do have a complete set of dumbbells from 5 lbs up, and with the help of the Kettle Gryp, I can quickly turn the plain vanilla hex dumbbell into a kettlebell within seconds. I really love the versatility of this product and am delighted that I won’t ever have to buy kettlebells ever again. Promising review: “These blocks have been awesome for my yoga practice!! It makes so much sense for yoga blocks to conform to the shape of your hand instead of being just a square block. I broke my left wrist several years ago and recently sprained it playing tennis. Using the Wrist Buddy yoga blocks instead of my usual ones puts a lot less strain on my wrist — and I feel much more comfortable and confident in the poses. Plus, I can do poses with these blocks that I couldn’t before because of the support they provide. I have recommended them to my friends!!” —Katharine O’Donovan

Promising review:The best medicine ball I’ve ever purchased! I’ve been using these balls at my gym for over a year. Every time we need to add more equipment I order these — there’s no need to even look at other brands. Ball slams, core exercises, wall balls — you name it, this product will deliver. Over time you may notice sand leaking if you do a lot of ball slams with them, but it took several months and thousands of slams for me to ever notice leakage (which is to be expected with this construction).
