How do you farm Forgotten Souls in Diablo 4? Diablo 4 isn’t over once you’ve completed the campaign. There is a whole new world of endgame content to discover, alongside seasonal stories and features, and Helltide events are just one of those post-campaign mechanics. They’re also the best way to farm valuable resources including Forgotten Souls.

D4 Forgotten Souls are a D4 salvage item, though the best way to get them in greater quantities is via Helltide events, as you’ll need to salvage some pretty valuable gear to even get a chance at seeing a Forgotten Soul. They’re used to upgrade Sacred and Ancestral weapons, and you need them in order to perfect your best D4 builds in the RPG game, so here’s how to farm Forgotten Souls after Diablo 4 endgame.

Forgotten Souls can be farmed in Helltide events in any Torment difficulty, but particularly by summoning and defeating the Blood Maiden. The best way to farm Forgotten Souls, though, is to stick to Torment I difficulty and open as many low-cost Tortured Gifts as possible.

Tortured Gifts are chests that are located around the Helltide area, and each of them grants the same number of Forgotten Souls in any Torment difficulty, which is why, if you’re specifically after souls, you shouldn’t consider opening higher-cost chests. Instead, farm as many Aberrant Cinders as possible by defeating hordes and bosses, and open Tortured Gifts as frequently as possible.

The reason we say to stick to lower difficulty tiers as well is that the cost to reward ratio isn’t balanced for Forgotten Souls. Defeating enemies takes longer in higher tiers, with a greater risk of death, but won’t reward as many Forgotten Souls, relatively speaking. Just remember that no Forgotten Souls are rewarded in normal difficulty, so the lowest tier you’ll receive Souls in Helltide events is Torment I.

If you die during the Helltide event, half of your Aberrant Cinders are lost, and this isn’t ideal when farming chests. So, again, keep to that lower difficulty, farm Cinders, and open Tortured Gifts often for the most Forgotten Souls.

Summoning and defeating the Blood Maiden during Helltide events is also a great way to farm even more Forgotten Souls, as offering at least one of the three required Baleful Hearts to summon her increases your Helltide loot gains. Any Tortured Gifts you open from there on out will drop more Forgotten Souls. Just weigh up whether you can defeat her if you’re considering holding onto your Aberrant Cinders until then, and we’d recommend taking a party with you to defeat her.

With all those Diablo 4 Forgotten Souls you’ll now have flooding you inventory, you can go on to maximize your Sacred and Ancestral items with your local Blacksmith, including the D4 Rod of Kepeleke – the best weapon for the ultimate Spiritborn build. If you’re yet to try out the Spiritborn class, read our Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred review, the expansion in which the class was added, to find out how we got on.
