Jeffrey portrayed Charles, the patriarch of the Deetz family. With Beetlejuice being one of his most famous acting credits to date, many speculated he’d reprise his role alongside Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara. Adam and Barbara Maitland (played by Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) are also nowhere to be found due to finding a loophole and finally moving on.

While Charles is *technically* featured as a stop-motion character turned headless man roaming the afterlife, Jeffrey played no part in any of the movie.

In 2003, Jeffrey pleaded no contest after allegedly soliciting a 14-year-old boy to pose for explicit photos. He was sentenced to five years’ probation, counseling, and registering as a sex offender for life.

The controversy continued when he failed to update his sex offender status in 2004 and 2010, ultimately leading to his arrest in Florida and California.

The actor has had fewer TV and movie roles in the years following his legal woes, with his most recent appearance being in 2019’s Deadwood: The Movie.

Director Tim Burton hasn’t officially commented on Jeffrey’s absence, but it turns out he’s responsible for pitching Charles’s animated plane crash and shark attack sequence. The fact this tragic storyline led to three powerful generations of Deetz women coming together? Even better.
