Google Looks To Add New Features Such As Cross Platform E2EE Between Android and iPhone Devices After RCS Launch

Tech giant Google says it looks forward to moving ahead with new features after the launch of the much anticipated RCS on iPhones.

The Android maker hopes to make sure cross-platform communication is working at its best with offerings like end-to-end encryption amongst Android and iPhone devices.

The governing body mentioned how the next big milestone has to do with the RCS Universal Profile and the thought of adding important user safeguards like interoperable E2E.

This will be deployed to the usual standards and will give rise to messaging encryption between different computing apps. Similarly, the goal is to better address major tech challenges like important federations and crypto-enforced group memberships. As a result, users will benefit from enhanced security that protects against scams, frauds, and more security concerns.

Google explained through a new blog post today that it was working by the side of bigger ecosystems to ensure E2EE on RCS chats was possible. Meanwhile, the Google Messages platform on Android would offer E2E encryption and group chats that don’t extend to iPhones.

Google says they are so proud of offering this kind of technology E2EE in Messages with RCS since the start of 2020. They hope this kind of technology will serve as a crucial security messaging system to ensure E2EE on RCS chats as swiftly as possible.

Google mentioned that’s committed to giving rise to safe messaging experiences for all and they are dedicated to ensuring the E2EE standard is there for RCS users, no matter which app is used.

In 2023, Google laid down plans to show support for MLS so that interoperable End-to-end encryption for messages was possible.

When iPhones rolled out RCS recently, Apple declared plans to work with GSMA members to include encryption as the standard.

For now, Google mentioned how it looks forward to seeing Apple add more options for media reactions, direct replies to group chats, and more. This Universal Profile was finalized a few months back with just two more features.

The first one was linked to replies and reactions to both sent and received messages. Meanwhile, the second was to change, recall, or delete messages sent earlier for message recipients.
