When does Diablo 4 Season 6 release date? A much-loved feature from Diablo 3 makes its return in D4 with the (re)introduction of seasons, adding everything from new questlines to items, gameplay mechanics, and more. Expanding on the rich, gothic world of Sanctuary, Blizzard makes sure players have plenty to sink their teeth into, whether you’re a fresh-faced player taking their first steps into Sanctuary or a grizzled veteran of the Burning Hells.

Just like every other seasonal event, expect Season 6 to add a whole bunch of new content to explore in Blizzard’s action RPG game, no matter whether you’re a level 100 player who’s been around since the Diablo 4 release date or someone who is considering jumping into the game now it’s on Game Pass.

The Diablo 4 Season 6 release date is October 8, 2024, and will release alongside the Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred expansion, which adds a new class, a new region, and more. This was confirmed in an interview with Windows Central.

The D4 Season 6 release date of course marks the end of season 5, the season of the Infernal Hordes, so make sure you’ve accomplished everything you want to before the season change. As we explore more below, there are some important changes taking place between seasons this time due to the level cap alteration, so you should be aware of that as well.

Diablo 4 Season 6 Vessel of Hatred

Season 6: Vessel of Hatred brings some controversial changes and some long-awaited features, so there are pros and cons to the arrival of the latest season.

Loot and level changes

First off, there are huge changes taking place to loot and levels, since the level cap is changing drastically. Before now, the highest level you could reach was 100. With the introduction of season 6, everyone’s level will half, as all capped players drop from level 100 to level 50. The reason for this is that another ten levels are being added, so more progression will be available, up to level 60 at this time.

This also means that item levels are dropping, though players are still unclear as to what this means for its strength. Theoretically, your gear should feel as strong as before relative to your level and ability, and new stronger gear (level 800) is being added to match the new level cap. If you look at it like the player level is increasing to 120 and gear level is increasing to over 920 it’s easier to comprehend the changes, Blizzard is just making the numbers easier.

Of course, this only affects Eternal Realm characters, as new season characters start from level 1 anyway, it’s just something to bear in mind as you transfer your season 5 character to the Eternal Realm.

Runewords

Among these level changes, the Vessel of Hatred season is bringing back one of the most popular Diablo mechanics: Runewords. Diablo 4 runes are something players have been asking for since the game’s initial release, and our prayers have been answered, as the classic mechanic returns with a D4-approriate feel.

Diablo 4 seasons explained

Diablo 4 seasons last roughly three months, with four seasons a year. You must have completed the campaign before you can experience any of the new seasonal stories. You can, however, complete the campaign in the seasonal realm if you are new to D4, and your usual slaying of beasts and clearing of dungeons will add to your Diablo 4 Battle Pass progress.

If you aren’t new to the game and have already started your adventure in Sanctuary, you’ll need new seasonal characters; each one is a fresh start from level one, which gets you to level up, experience the seasonal content, and get great loot – don’t forget that the skip campaign option becomes available once you have completed it once. Once the season ends, you won’t lose your character, as every seasonal character is transferred to the Eternal Realm to allow players to keep slaying and looting to their heart’s content.

Previous Diablo 4 Seasons

Here are all the previous Diablo 4 seasons and what they introduced:

  • Season 1 – Season of the Malignant: This added a new short story campaign where players sought out Varshan the Consumed and dealt with the blight through interacting with Malignant Hearts.
  • Season 2 – Season of the Blood: This season saw players obtain up to 22 vampiric powers, which were transferred to the base game as aspects. It also introduced several endgame bosses and the Blood Harvest event.
  • Season 3 – Season of the Construct: Players were able to use Seneschal, a robot companion who they can upgrade with abilities and traits. It also included a new dungeon type called Vaults, as well as the first appearance of leaderboards and always active Helltides.
  • Season 4 – Season of Loot Reborn: This season had a campaign where members of the Iron Wolves were disappearing under suspicious circumstances. Players must also fight back against the Helltide to earn standing with the Iron Wolves. Several big changes were made to both Seasonal and Eternal realms for how items are earned, and how loot in general works.
  • Season 5 – Season of the Infernal Hordes: This season added a new Infernal Hordes mode which you can complete solo or with friends. The aim is to defeat waves of enemies within a time limit and advance through the Well of Hatred, spending Burning Aether between waves on spoils to help you advance.
