TikTok Expands Role In Science Education By Rolling Out STEM Feed To More Users

Social media giant TikTok is making a lasting mark in the world of science education. The company just opened up STEM feed to users located in the US, Ireland, and the UK.

The company first rolled out STEM feed to young Americans, 18 and below last year before it decided to expand on that front and enter the EU market this year. Now, it’s keen on expanding the science-based stream to users across these regions.

A statement was rolled out by TikTok on this front including how it is currently inspired to help youngsters pursue careers in STEM. Other goals include uniting aspiring engineers to design formulas or even assisting programmers learn coding through the STEM feed. As per TikTok, it’s all about enriching young minds and giving way to co-learning.

While the main target audience in the past was just the youth, TikTok wants to involve more people in the world of science through its efforts. This could give rise to more interest and attention for such types of content.

As per TikTok, launching the STEM feed gave rise to 200M views on content related to STEM. To be more specific, it added how most of the viewership came from a third of teens in America and the UK and they’re visiting the site more frequently than before.

It’s clearly a successful push and one designed to curate more interest in posts related to the world of science so creators can also enter the field. More expansion is also predicted shortly as TikTok wants to provide more local language support for such content.

This could be a great positive point for TikTok which is trying to remove concerns about how the app offers little value to users. Let’s not forget the scrutiny from lawmakers who feel it’s a useless addiction that drives young minds to do negative things. Its algorithm was also deemed addictive and luring for young minds.

Therefore, a rise in educational content will simply draw more interest in this domain and remove the spotlight from all the negative publicity the app keeps getting routinely. If you ask us, we think the initiative is great for spreading knowledge and making users think critically on the platform. So if you’re in the outlined regions mentioned above, you should be able to access it starting today.
