People Are Using Their Air Fryers To Create “Indoor S'mores,” And Honestly, The Method Is Genius

If you are a millennial who lived through the pandemic, I’m going to assume you have an air fryer that you’re emotionally attached to.

However, I’m not going to assume you’ve seen this s’mores recipe going viral, because yes, people are making them in the air fryer.

So I wanted to see if the recipe was worth all the hype, and more importantly, worth adding to my air fryer rotation of chicken nuggets, fries, popcorn shrimp, and asparagus. (I see you judging.)

Here’s what I started out with for ingredients: marshmallows, graham crackers, and the finest chocolate bars money can buy at Target. This is a pack of four.

The graham crackers will be on hold until after the air fryer stage.

I opted to use aluminum foil to line my air fryer. I’ve seen a lot of people using parchment paper on TikTok. In the comments of those videos, A LOT of other people were warning about air fryers catching fire due to the paper, and I was not willing to try that for y’all. Apologies.

After placing half a bag of marshmallows into the air fryer I broke up one chocolate bar into smaller pieces and placed the pieces on top of the marshmallows. Then, I preheated the air fryer to 370 degrees, and set the timer for five minutes. It was a happy medium in between the 300 degrees and 400 degrees I saw most people trying online.

I know s’mores aficionados are passionate about how their marshmallows come out. I noticed TikToker @jordan_the_stallion8 left his on the fluffier side, while @ceciliebakklemens made sure hers were a little more charred. As for me, I need to see some char. So after the first five minutes I put the s’mores back in for another two minutes so I could get them up to campfire status.

(Full transparency, I also added more chocolate. A whole chocolate bar to be exact.)

Two minutes didn’t make much of a difference so I added another five minutes, and that absolutely did the trick. Wow, I’m no outdoorsy girl, but this looks like it kissed a real fire.

I scooped my graham cracker right into the air fryer for a taste test, and it did not disappoint. I repeat, did NOT.

And that’s coming from a retired girl scout who’s made real s’mores in a fireplace or two.

If you consider trying this recipe, I would suggest going for a higher temperature on your air fryer if you want some char on your marshmallows like me. I definitely could’ve preheated it to 400 degrees. Also, I was modest with my marshmallow placement. I placed them in rows, single file. That made them difficult to scoop with the graham cracker because there was no depth. I would suggest just dumping those bad boys in there in a pile to make the s’mores more “scoopable.”

Otherwise, I can confirm this simple, decadent recipe was indeed worth the hype. Especially if you’re craving something VERY sweet at night as you get older (like me).

Wow, we’re really becoming our parents.
