Battlefield Fans Triangulate Real-World Location Shown in Concept Art

Let’s Rock

EA only just showed off a piece of concept art for the in-development next Battlefield game, which doesn’t even have an official name yet. That didn’t stop fans from quickly deducing the real-world location depicted in the war-torn scene, with one in particular making a pretty convincing case.

Spotted by IGN, content creator TacticalBrit proposes that the seemingly European city under siege is, in fact, one of the most formidable natural fortresses in the world: Gibraltar, located on the extreme southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula.

TacticalBrit notes that this “makes perfect sense for any game with a theoretical conflict as Gibraltar acts as a strategic bridge between Europe and Africa.” Ceded to Great Britain in 1713, Gibraltar remains a contentious outpost today, with inhabitants fiercely rejecting Spanish claims of sovereignty. A natural fortress, Gibraltar has endured some 14 sieges since its settlement in the 11th century.

TacticalBrit used real-life images to match the location, which was already quite convincing. Then Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson popped up in the comments to confirm the theory, so this one seems like a lock.

Should we fear what Battlefield fans can do when they set their minds to a task? Are you looking forward to the next entry in the series? Rock and roll in the comments section below.
