Canadians Are Sharing All The Wild Things They'd Do If They Won The Lottery

It’s a historic time for us Canadians — especially those of us who buy a lottery ticket every now and then. Because tonight, Sept. 17, the biggest-ever Lotto Max jackpot can be won. And the amount? $80 MILLION.

So it got me thinking (and daydreaming): what would my fellow Canadians do if they won the lottery? Would they stay in Canada, or would they leave? Well, Reddit user r/Low-Earth4481 recently asked this very question — and here are some of the funniest answers:

1. “Yes, [I’d stay in Canada], but I’d travel a fuck ton.”

2. “I’d keep my home here and use it for a couple months in the summer, but probably buy a little villa in Italy and gorge myself on pasta, chocolate and bread.”

“If? You mean when. Sell my house, move to a city on the Mediterranean Coast of Spain, France or Italy. Eat my winnings in cheese.”

u/FearlessTravels

3. “Stay in Canada, stay in my current house, just give it every update and add on I currently dream about. Maybe get a bachelor apartment in Vancouver or Toronto.”

4. “I would probably stay and just be a sucker that gives most of the money away to family and friends.”

5. “If I won, I could afford groceries for a full month, LOL.”

6. “I’d buy a thousand acres of property lakeside in the mountains in rural British Columbia and retire. Garden, hunt, fish and just live off the land, only going into town to buy what I can’t produce myself.”

“I’d also buy a handful of properties within the city to collect rent from and keep an income. Hire a property manager so I don’t need to be bothered with what’s happening with them.”

7. “Depending on how much I win, I’d probably stay, and start construction projects on apartments so more people can have a place to live.”

“I’d probably also give some family and friends some money as well.”

9. “I’d buy a few small apartments in cities I love in different countries, and stay in Canada.”

“I’d likely just renovate my existing house and ride out my life until the sun sets… oh, and I’d buy some classic cars, and add a car wash bay to my newly renovated house.”

10. “Canada is my home. My family has lived here for generations. While I can understand people considering leaving for more affordable places, I can’t see any reason why I would want to leave if I have $50M+ to my name.”

“I’d travel a lot, but I wouldn’t leave my homeland.”

u/bridger713

11. “I’d leave. Ireland has always fascinated me.”

“I would definitely travel around in Europe, maybe a world cruise or two (or 10!) and explore the world. THEN, I would buy my own private island and look into building a resort-type business.”

12. “If I won the Lotto, I’d get a detached house, probably have children, and do some frequent self-care. I’d get my nails/hair done and a facial, go on a nice yearly vacation, and work part-time.”

“Hopefully I would be able to help others as well.”

u/Salty-Distance5905

14. “If I won Lotto Max, I’d strip naked in the parking lot of a former Blockbuster and start doing the worm.”

u/FatCrabTits

15. “I’m outta here! Enough cold weather! I’d move to a big city, preferably somewhere hot.”

u/Tactical_Enforcments

16. “I get so much satisfaction in giving. I’m comfortable, not rich. Worked at Sears. I would buy the shipping containers, and make them into homes for the homeless. I would give a million bucks for fresh water for Indigenous peoples.”

“Also, I would give my friends some money.”

u/Working_Pollution272

17. “I’d spend time living in Japan, Thailand, South Korea, then various South American countries. Probably buy a shitty Honda motorbike and travel the world.”

u/DJScrambledEggs123

18. And finally: “I’d buy you a fur coat. But not a real fur coat; that’s cruel.”

(Yes, this is from a song. I’m very sorry if you missed the reference.)
