When is the Starfield Shattered Space DLC release date? Despite being one of the biggest Bethesda games ever made, the developer isn’t content with leaving it as it is, revealing that at least one expansion is on the way.
Bethesda has already confirmed the space game’s first DLC: Shattered Space. While we don’t know if there will ever be a Starfield sequel, we do know the world will be broadened with expansions, perhaps similar to Skyrim or Fallout 4’s content packs. So, what do we know about Shattered Space, the first Starfield DLC?
The Starfield Shattered Space release date is September 30, 2024. This was confirmed during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live broadcast.
The Starfield: Shattered Space story expansion was revealed as part of the Starfield Premium and Constellation editions, and owners of both can expect to gain access to the DLC as soon as the release date rolls around. Of course, players with the base version or playing on Game Pass can purchase the DLC separately.
Starfield Shattered Space details
In a new deep dive video about the Shattered Space DLC, we have more information about what to expect from the upcoming expansion. Based solely on Va’ruun, you’ll have a less ‘open-world’ experience than in the base game, but you are free to return to the rest of the system at any time. As we expected from the trailer below, a major incident has taken place on Va’ruun, and it’s up to you to figure out what’s going on while finding out what happens when humanity’s search for knowledge goes too far.
While whatever is happening looks incredible, don’t hang around gawking for too long, as creatures from “the other side” take over abandoned areas of Va’ruun, leading to terrifying situations and difficult combat scenarios. This “alien” expansion has clearly been made to feel more intense and scary that the base game ever did.
The Summer Game Fest 2024 trailer gave our first real glimpse of Shattered Space, revealing a darker story than the main Starfield story, but not revealing as much as the trailer above, while suggesting that it may take place before any of the Starfield endings. Each one of the inhabited planets in the trailer has an off, almost eldritch vibe to it, with cultists praying to their gods and disfigured goat creatures roaming the lands.
Set in the city of Dazra on the planet Va’ruun’kai, we get a glimpse of several abandoned facilities, filled with ghost-like beings aim to drive you away from its secrets. Dazra is the hidden home world of House Va’ruun, the mysterious Starfield faction that follows the Great Serpent, a cosmic threat that looms as it looks to destroy everything.
On Dazra, you get to experience House Va’ruun as it goes through a moment of strife, giving you a chance to learn more about its people and their beliefs. Upon discovering a derelict star station, you find out about the catastrophic event that caused Va’ruun’kai to be in the state it’s in. Your goal is to work out what caused the catastrophic event and try to resolve it in any way you see fit.
Revealed alongside the Shattered Space DLC is the Rev-8, a new vehicle players can use to drive across the hundreds of Starfield planets available. The Rev-8 also works on Va’ruun’kai, making it easy to travel to and from the spooky areas featured in the Shattered Space expansion.
