Space Marine 2 Enjoys a Launch Worthy of the God-Emperor Himself

Two million Space Marine Battle-Brothers, or 2000 full-strength Chapters

In further proof of our immaculate teenage taste, Warhammer: 40,000: Space Marine 2, like Baldur’s Gate 3 last year, is blowing up. Following four days of Early Access and the game’s official launch on 9th September, publisher Focus Entertainment has revealed that some two million Space Marine Battle-Brothers (or 2000 full-strength Space Marine Chapters, as prescribed in the sacred text of the Codex Astartes) have already joined the eternal fight.

As a reward, they’ve had Lieutenant Titus’ actor, Clive Standen, record a suitably stoic thank you. In addition, developer Saber Interactive’s truly great take on the 40K universe also enjoys the distinction of having the highest-ever concurrent player count for a game set in Game’s Workshop’s rich setting, with 225,690 servants of the God-Emperor online at the same time on PC alone.

For comparison, Creative Assembly’s incredible PC grand strategy game, Total War: Warhammer 3, is in second place with 166,754 (thanks, IGN). As we are seeing so many new converts drawn to the light of the Imperial Truth, we would be entirely remiss in not recommending Owlcat’s exceedingly well-written Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, a CRPG in the style of BG3, which is getting a meaty, 15+ hour expansion in the form of Void Shadows in mere days.
